Stephen Owens was born December 18, 1950, to Robert Owens and the late Theresa Owens. He grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland with three younger siblings, Frank, Scott, and Kimberly. He had fond memories of growing up playing with his brother, Frank, and doting on his baby sister, Kimberly. Steve attended St. Mary's Catholic School and DuVal High School, graduating in 1968. After attending the University of Maryland College Park for several semesters, Steve set off on a cross-country journey and ended up living in California for a few years. Steve moved back home to the D.C.-area and in 1981, met Cesar Huezo, the love of his life, while both were working at the Watergate. They made a home in Fort Washington, but they loved the time they spent traveling all over the world. When not traveling, Steve and Cesar could be found around town at almost any theater production, especially musicals, or at the movies. Steve became an uncle, a role he adored, in 1986, with the birth of Amanda. He also enjoyed being a great-uncle to Amanda's son, Trevor. Steve worked for many years in the Roof Terrace Restaurant at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Steve will be remembered for his generosity, steadfast friendship, sarcastic wit, and love of the arts. Steve's favorite things included Barbara Streisand's music, visits the beach, collecting treasures from his travels with Cesar and making plans their next adventure, drawing, and spending time with the people he loved. Steve's delicious cooking, great laugh, and kind heart will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Stephen Owens is survived by his loving partner of 29 years, Cesar Huezo; his father, Robert Owens; his brothers, Frank Owens and Scott Owens; his sister, Kimberly Owens; his aunt, Helen Creech; his nieces, Amanda Owens, Taylor Owens, and Anngelina Owens Cucinotta; his grand-nephew, Trevor Nix; and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service for Steve will be held on Saturday, September 4, at 3 p.m. at Beall's Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland.
