EUGENIA VIRELLA NIEVES (known to family and friends as "Genita"), 86 years old, passed away, suddenly, at Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mt. Holly, New Jersey on August 26, 2010, with her loving family at her side. Born in Corozal, Puerto Rico in 1923, she married Raul Nieves (deceased in 2000) on August 15, 1942. Their marriage of 58 years was filled with the joy of their five children: Edgardo Nieves of Baltimore, Md., Lourdes (Linda) Howard of Bordentown, N.J., Walter Nieves of Crofton, Md., J. Geraldo (Jerry) Nieves of Crofton, Md., and Maria Monmaney of Crofton, Md. Eugenia traveled the world as an Army wife and continued to love traveling after her husband passed away. She went on many pilgrimages, but her favorite was to Fatima, Portugal. She was a faithful member of the Legion of Mary both in Maryland and in New Jersey. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and member of the Spanish Choir in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Odenton, Md. She was also a member of the Retired Officer's Wives Club, Ft. Meade, Md. She had been licensed in Property and Casualty Insurance and worked for a period of time at an Allstate Insurance Agency. She enjoyed and thoroughly excelled in flower arranging and gardening. She was oftentimes seen walking the Crofton Parkway with her miniature poodle, Suki (the love of her life). Eugenia was a loyal, caring and good neighbor - always a kind and generous person to all whom she met. She was a devout and passionate Catholic; the best parent, grandmother and great grandmother anyone could wish for. She always gave her all! She was the beloved daughter of Juana Bou and Ramon Virella, both deceased, and loving sister to Maria Cristina Fiol of Colonial Heights, Va., Ana Angelica Vazquez of San Antonio, TX., Ramona Crespo of San Juan, PR., Jesus Virella of Bayamon, PR., Estela Virella of San Juan, PR., and Carmen Luz Virella, who died at the age of 13. Eugenia was the proud "Abuela" to thirteen grandchildren, Sr. Kathleen Howard, S.M.M.I. of Connecticut, William P. Howard of Colorado, Christine Pennington of Colorado, Peter Howard of Colorado, Sandra Montefusco of Baltimore, Yvonne Funes of Baltimore, Edgardo Nieves Jr. of Baltimore, Patricia Proutt of Baltimore, Jillian Carl of Virginia, Annamaria Monmaney of Crofton, Catherine Monmaney of Crofton, Michael Nieves of Crofton, Paul Nieves of Crofton. In addition she was the proud "Abuelita" of 21 great grandchildren. Viewing will be held Friday, September 10th from 7-9 PM at Beall Funeral Home - 6512 NW Crain Highway (Rte. 3 South),Bowie, MD 20715. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 11th at 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Chapel -16501 Annapolis Rd. Bowie, Md. 20715. Burial will be September 17th at 9:00 AM at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, VA (Please arrive at the Administration building at 8:30am).
