Geraldine F. Scallan

February 11, 1928 — August 10, 2010

Geraldine Frances Scallan, affectionately known as "Ma", departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus on August 10, 2010. She died peacefully with her family by her side at her home in Bowie, MD. She was born February 11, 1928 in Norwich, CT, the daughter of Jeremiah and Anne Sophia Kane. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Wilson and Dorothy Booty. Gerry was the beloved wife of Myles Scallan, with whom she cherished 55 years of marriage together. In her early years, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator before raising her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She modeled true motherhood to her daughters, granddaughters, and their families. She will be remembered for her compassionate heart, generous and thoughtful spirit, encouraging words, and witty sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters playing cards and board games. She loved watching horse races and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 40 years and her faith in Christ was a daily source of strength and comfort. Gerry is survived by her devoted husband, Myles James Scallan, and their two daughters, Maureen Garmey and her husband Jim, and Sharon Przygoda and her husband Bruce, and her granddaughters Sarah Garmey, Laura Soots, and Cayla and Kiera Przygoda. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Chapel, Bowie. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Society for the Cure of Breast Cancer, ATTN: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
