Edward F. Kammerer, resident of Mitchellville, MD, died of Alzheimer's disease on August 9, 2010. He was 80. Ed was born September 10, 1929 in Washington D.C., where he grew up with his sisters Marge and Mary, and brothers Joseph, John, and Jimmy. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps with an Honorable Discharge and subsequently met his beloved wife, Fran. Relying on his persuasive skills and sheer confidence, Ed asked her for a first date to go roller-skating and in fact, he would teach her. Unbeknown to Fran, this was to be Ed's first time roller-skating! They were married in 1950 and were blessed with three children, Jackson, Ronald, and Debra, and then followed by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After the war, Ed embarked on a retail sales career that was to span 37 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co. He quickly rose from sales to retail and product management, eventually retiring in 1990 as a Manager for Sears' flagship Brand Central. Throughout his career, Ed had a great interest in and pursued learning that included sales methodologies, management, training, and personal development - a reflection of his passion as a sales professional and leader. He achieved the level of instructor and sales coach for the world renowned Dale Carnegie Sales Training Program. His "off" hours were oftentimes spent helping Fran in the ceramics business. Retiring in 1990, Ed loved to go with Fran to their second home in Montego Bay, Ocean City, MD. He and Fran would pack lunches and go fishing for many hours on the "50 Bridge". At sunset, Ed could even be found on his dock, fishing for "spot" or the fish du jour. At home, he always found something to do around the house, whether it was home improvements or working on the lawn. He always looked forward to family gatherings and loved to be with his family -and his family loved to be with him. Ed, Dad, Uncle Eddie, Granddad, and/or Pappy - you were all to us, and you touched each of our lives. We love you and will forever cherish our memories together.
