Horace Paul Ramey, 89, of Lanham, MD passed away peacefully, on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Doctor's Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Ramey; son Mark Ramey; daughter Melissa Ramey; daughter-in-law Karen Ramey; grandsons Daniel, Christopher and Alexander Ramey; many nieces and nephews. Paul was born in Centerberg, Ohio on March 24, 1921. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and attended the Naval School of Music. He was in the Naval Academy Band for 28 years, finishing his career as the Chief Music Librarian at Annapolis. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor having served on the USS Argonne at the time of the attack. After his Naval discharge, he worked in the law research department at Southern Railroad for 14 years and continued his musical career with the Sexton German Band. After retirement, he volunteered at Doctor's Community hospital and Project Head Start, using his humor and puppet skills to bring smiles to many patients, families and children. He also played in the Greenbelt Community Band and was a member of the Toast Masters. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 10:00am, at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Please report to the chapel.
