Jesse A. Poole, Jr.

March 1, 1923 — July 24, 2010

Jesse A Poole, Jr. is remembered as a loving husband to Catherine and father of two children, Jesse and Beverly. He would tell you that he was a machinist by trade who then graduated from college leading to a career in Special Tooling and Test Equipment with the US Navy. He was a hard worker who cared deeply about his family, friends, church and community He was born to Jesse A. Poole, Sr. and Grace Cleary Suddarth on March 1, 1923 in Washington DC. He grew up in NE graduating from Taft Jr High in 1938 and McKinley Technical High School in, Washington DC in 1941. Immediately after graduation he began an apprenticeship at the Alexandria Naval Torpedo Station leading to Journeyman status. He served most of the war years as a machinist at Alexandria being released only as World War II neared it's end. to serve in the Army Air Corp. He was Honorably discharged and graduated from Ben Franklin (now George Washington University) with a BA degree in Accounting on June 30, 1949. He worked for the Navy Department until retirement on Dec 30, 1975. He married Catherine Lenora Grennon on Nov 7, 1945 and they moved into an apartment on Minnesota Ave in SE Washington DC. There they had their first child, Jesse and lived there until 1951. When their daughter, Beverly was due to arrive, they moved to a Cape Cod house in Cheverly, Md where they remained for 43 years raising their two children. During this time Jesse attended the Cheverly Community Church. was active in the Masonic Order, the School System and other community activities. In 1994 they moved to a single story home in Waldorf where Jesse was active in the Homeowners Association and National Night Out. He was a parishioner of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Waldorf. He and his wife Catherine recently moved to Woodward Estates in Bowie, Md. Jesse is survived by his wife, Catherine, and two children: Beverly Ann married to Stephen Roberts of Bowie; and Jesse A. Poole, III married to Jennifer Lovell Poole of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Virginia married to Roy Martin (Phoenix, AZ), Elizabeth Poole (Phoenix, AZ) and Karen Poole (Washington DC).,and his nieces and nephews.
