Robert Joseph DeVeau Robert Joseph DeVeau, 73, of Crofton, MD, where he resided for forty years, died June 17, 2010. He was born June 24, 1936, in Woburn, MA. Robert proudly served in the United States Marines Corps for five years, where he began his professional career as a graphic designer and illustrator for the Marine Corps Gazette. Robert was a gifted artist from a young age and was the recipient of numerous awards prior to graduating from high school and later attending the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. He was a graphic designer and art director at The Washington Daily News and several firms early in his career. Having the drive and talent to go out on his own, Robert then established a successful graphic design firm, Robert DeVeau Advertising, located in Washington, D.C., which was in business for thirty-five years. During this time his talent became well-known and respected in the metro area. He was commissioned by The White House (under the Reagan and Bush Administrations) to create caricatures for several special events. He was also selected to design The White House News Photographers Association Annual Awards Book for several years. He finished his career working in advertising sales for The Washington Times. Robert enjoyed live theater, writing and producing his own plays "Midnight Oil" and "Act of Murder". He was a member of the Crofton Players Guild and enjoyed set design, as well as acting for The Colonial Players of Annapolis, MD, and several other local theatre groups. A dedicated member of the community, he was involved in the Crofton Kiwanis and often volunteered his time and artwork to local charities and events. Being a kind-hearted man, Robert also volunteered as a Hugger for the Special Olympics. Throughout the years, he enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his wife Jane and three daughters every summer. He was a fantastic dancer, played the trombone, liked magic tricks and had a great sense of humor. He was a loyal friend, amazing father, and loving husband. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jennie DeVeau (Bova); and his brother, George DeVeau. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Jane DeVeau (Cool); his son Christopher DeVeau of Eglisau, Switzerland; his daughters, Robin Randall of Ashburn, VA, Danielle Crawford of Severna Park, MD, Jacqueline McHale of Silver Spring, MD; brother, Edward DeVeau of Victorville, CA; sons-in-law, John Crawford and Anthony McHale, and daughter-in-law, Bea DeVeau; four grandchildren, Sarah, Charlotte, Cameron and Isla. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with Memorial Service following at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway Bowie, MD 20715 on Thursday, June 24.
