Raymond E. Twomey, 96, of Bowie, Maryland passed away, in Lanham, MD on January 24, after a brief hospitalization. Mr. Twomey was born in Biddeford, Maine on December 14, 1913, the son of the late Jeremiah L. and Corinne (Gonneville) Twomey. He had been employed with the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years before retiring on May 31, 1971 as a Space and Equipment Specialist. He began his career on May 11, 1940 as a Substitute Railway Mail Clerk for the USPS's Railway Mail Service. His job took him to Portland, then Boston and finally to Washington, DC when he settled into the Baltimore-Washington area in 1963. He is survived by two children, Corinne Twomey Call and her husband, Elmer, of Bowie, MD; Michael R. Twomey of Alexandria, VA; one sister, Claire Twomey Varney of Bedford, NH; two grandchildren, David Twomey and Christopher Twomey and several nieces and nephews. A son, Raymond David Twomey died in 1991 and his beloved wife, Arlene McKenney Twomey died on June 16, 1997. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 6-8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Church of the Good Shepard Parish on Elm Street in Biddeford, Maine.
