John "Bud" James McGroarty, 78, a resident of Riverdale, Md, on Friday, October 9, 2009. He was born on April 30, 1931 in Wilkes Barre, PA. John was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War, and retired from the Metropolitan Police, where he earned the title of Det. Sgt of the Fugitive Squad. He was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Landover Hills and Athletic Director and Men's Club Member at St. Mary's Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus P.G. Council 2809. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice J. and one sister, Mary Lou Battin and the late Peggy Coloney and Nancy Burke, five children, Mary Alice McGroarty and Rick, Kathleen Carter, Patrick McGroarty and Helen, Teresa Billingsley and Jim, and John McGroarty Jr. Cherished Grandfather of 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Family invites friends to Beall Funeral Home, 6512 N.W. Crain Hwy. (Rte 3 South) on Tuesday, October 13 from 3-5, and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church 7301 Annapolis Rd. Landover Hills, MD on Wednesday, October 14 at 11am. Interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
