William Martin Whorton, Jr.

William Martin Whorton, Jr. Bill?, 77, a 45 year resident of Bowie, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at his home. He was born on August 21, 1931 in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Whorton earned a Bachelors Degree from Memphis State University and was retired from NHS/HHS.From the age of 14, he was an avid golfer whose skill earned him several holes-in-one. A holder of numerous tournament trophies, he was well known as an exceptional player at many area golf courses. He was an original lifelong member of Crofton Country Club. His love for gardening was inspired by his mother, Ruth.Mr. Whorton is survived by his wife, Della H. Whorton, who he married on October 16, 1954; his daughters Betty Cook of Wilton, CT, Kate Waters of Montgomery Village, MD, Della Scott Whorton of Crofton, MD and Mary Zarcone of Bowie, MD; his sister Betty Haag of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Bill Whorton, Marley Zarcone, Chris Cook, David Chambers, James Waters, Maria Zarcone, Patrick Whorton and Gavin Waters. He was predeceased by his son, William M. Whorton, III and his sister, Kathryn Kent. Family will receive friends at the family owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 7:00-9:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 13106 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 10:00am. Inurnment following service, in church cemetery.
