Thornton Stanley Dutch? Sykes, 88, a resident of Tracys Landing for 36 years, Died of natural causes on March 18, 2009. Mr. Sykes was born June 13, 1920 in Washington, DC. to the late Bertha Norton Sykes and William Archibald Sykes. He grew up in Washington, DC and attended McKinley Tech High School and North Carolina State.Dutch served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was in the landing at Anzio Italy. He worked for the C&P telephone company for 35 years and retired in 1980.He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Deale Elks and also belonged to several other fraternal organizations where he became involved with numerous charity events helping with youth sports and food basket donations, He spent many years volunteering at the Elks Camp Barrett.in Davidsonville.He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jean Storrar Sykes, whom he married in 1948, by two brothers Pierce Sykes and Marshall Sykes; and two sisters Allayne Perkins and Delores Baccile. Survivors include four children, Thomas Sykes of Bowie, MD, John Sykes of Cary, NC, Bertha Jean Stitt of Delmar, MD, Susan Brooks of Gambrills, MD, and 6 grandchildren, Keith, Cooper, Rachel, Kevin, Kimberly and Kelly.Family will receive friends at the family owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from7:00-9:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 5757 Soloman Island Rd., Lothian, MD 20779 on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00am.
