Lewis Emory Unnewehr

Lewis Emory Unnewehr, 83 years of Age, Lew? or Lewie? a resident of Bowie, Maryland since 2006 and previously of Daytona Beach, Florida and Lakeside, Ohio passed on May 19th, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, Maryland after a long illness. He was born September 27th, 1925 in Berea, OhioLewis earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in Lafayette, IN and his Masters in EE from Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN.He worked as an Engineering Professor at Valparaiso University in IN and Villanova in PA during the 1950s, as an Aircraft Engineer in the early to mid 1960s and as a Research Engineer for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan in the late 1960s-1980s.Unusual Interesting Achievements from his life include the fact that he holds seven U.S. patents and is co-author of seven Electrical Engineering textbooks, including one on Electric Vehicle Technology and also a Historical novel about German-Americans in Berea, Ohio 1912-1920.Memberships include IEEE, Unitarian Church of Daytona Beach and Barbershopper- Daytona Beach & Michigan City chapters.Lewis played the Tuba and Bridge, sang Choral Music and Barbershop and enjoyed gardening, rail history, photography and world travel.Survivors include his wife, Laurel Jean, age 82, who he married in August of 1948. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Annapolis, Maryland in 2008; Sons David Lewis Unnewehr of Bowie, Maryland and Chris Emory Unnewehr of Fountain Hills, Arizona;Daughters Laurie Millar of Grass Valley, California and Janet Tupper, Cheverly Maryland;Sister: Jean Putnam, 88 of Warwick, RI; Grandchildren Erin, Kelton, Kevin, Kyle, Janelle, Patrick, Sean, Christopher, Becky and Zac; and two Great-Grandchildren, Rollie and Malachai.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30th 2009, 3:30pm at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie Maryland 20715.
