Doris Butler Van Swaringen

On Tuesday, July 14, 2009 Doris Edria Butler Van Swaringen, a 24 year resident of Davidsonville, MD, formerly of Camp Springs passed away at home after a 24 year battle with COPD. She was born May 17, 1924 to the late Jack Butler and Doris T. Butler in Fredericksburg, VA, where she graduated from James Monroe High School. On October 2, 1942, she married Robert L. Van Swaringen. They went on to have 11 children and live in 2 countries and 6 states as a military family. From 1942-45, she worked for City Hall in Fredericksburg, VA. She was a member of the Mary Surratt Society in Southern Maryland, the Antique Arts Association and St. Georges Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, VA.She was an avid historian who enjoyed genealogy and collected and was a dealer of antiques. She also enjoyed restoring furniture, cooking and sewing.Beloved wife of the late Lt. Col. (Ret.) Robert L. Van Swaringen, who passed in 1986; loving mother of Robert Van Swaringen, Jr. of Delmar, MD, William Van Swaringen of Fountain Hills, AZ, Jeffrey Van Swaringen of Midway, TN, Judy Dillon of Denton, MD, Susan Morrall of Fountain Hills, AZ, Roberta Swanhart of Albuquerque, NM, Denise Bubsey of Johnson City, TN, Doris Petitti of Gambrills, MD and Alice Udy of Edgewater, MD; dear sister of the late Roy G., Jack C., Edward (Pat) and William H. Butler; grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the family owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:00am. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 10:00am. Please arrive at the Administration building at 9:30am.
