Adiaha Sambo

August 28, 1947 — June 5, 2024

Lanham

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Adiaha John Sambo, who passed away on 5 June 2024 at the age of 76.

Born on 28 August 1947, in Nigeria she grew up in Ikot Nte, Akwa Ibom State, and later moved to the United States as a young woman. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Emmanuel Akan, and a devoted mother to her child, Gloria E. Akan.

Adiaha Sambo lived a fulfilling life and was a woman of many talents.

She had a passion for church and prayer life. But those that know her well, know that she had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed cooking and family gatherings with her native Nigerian dishes including fufu and vegetable soup. She was supportive of young people completing their education and pursing fields that are productive. She enjoyed watching the Olympics and rooting for her favorite gymnastics and ice skating teams. She has been known to offer commentary on gymnastics rivaling and sometimes predicting Tim Daggett’s commentary.

Adiaha Sambo was a kind and generous soul, always putting others’ needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile, prayerful spirit and warm personality.

She is survived by her daughter Gloria, her sisters, Mrs Ekaete A. Ufford, Mrs Rose Silas, Mrs Janet P. Bassey, nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Ministry Center on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10 am. The viewing will take place at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, MD on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Rest in peace, dear mother. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
