Alan Capps, of Crofton, Maryland passed away on November 16, 2022 after a valiant year-long fight against Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born on July 20, 1961 in Enterprise, AL to Eugene and Jewel Capps while his father was stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL attending Army Flight School.
Alan loved growing up as an “Army Brat” and gathered the best personality traits available to nomadic military children. He loved growing up in Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Washington, Stuttgart, Berlin, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York before settling in the DC area.
After graduating from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in PA and attending a Penn State University campus in Mont Alto, PA, Alan began his career in retail and wholesale furniture as an energetic twentysomething and sold many types of furniture in NY, VA, and MD. After conquering the retail furniture world, he took the plunge and formed his own company as an Independent Sales Rep working for national manufacturers all over the U.S.
It was at Woodward & Lothrop, one of Alan’s retail furniture stops in Columbia, MD, where Alan would meet fellow Retail Veteran Donna Emrich, who would become the mother of his three amazing children and his wife of 25 years.
Alan was an athlete in his youth and throughout his life. He loved basketball, baseball, and soccer growing up, played racquetball throughout his life, and was such a strong golfer that he once considered becoming a career club pro.
He never stopped loving what he did for a living – he was a master salesman with a one-of-a-kind personality and a passionate furniture connoisseur who could explain and expound on the most intricate manufacturing and design details.
Best of all, Alan was a dedicated and loving father to his three kids, never missing an event, an emergency, a game, an outing, or an activity that mattered to the most important people in his life.
Alan is survived by his daughters Madison (21) and Ava (14) and his son Jacob (17), mother Jewel, sister Robin, and brother Mark, numerous nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.
