Albert J. Marmo

May 12, 1941 — November 1, 2021

Mr. Albert Marmo of Bowie, Maryland and formerly of Moosic, PA, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at his home. Born on May 12, 1941, in Taylor, and son of the late Generoso and Mary (Scavo) Marmo, Albert was a graduate of the former St. John's High School in Pittston, Class of 1958, the University of Scranton in 1962, and the Education for Public Management Program at the University of Washington Graduate School of Public Affairs in Seattle in 1972. 

He retired from Federal Government employment after 40 years of service, the first 5 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the last 35 years with the United States Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. 
He held various management positions in the National Recreational Boating Safety Program, including Program Planning Officer and Chief of Program Management. He also served as Executive Director of the National Boating Safety Advisory Council for 12 Years. 

He was presented with a Distinguished Career Service Award by the Coast Guard Commandant. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators in 2002, and was selected to the National Safe Boating Council's Boating Safety Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a member of both the Sacred Heart Parish and also the Sacred Heart Council #2577 of the Knights of Columbus, both of Bowie. He was active in that organization's bingo program for four decades. He was also a Cub Scout Den Leader for two years and photography was a lifelong hobby of his. He will certainly by missed by family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Mark Marmo of Chester, MD, Matthew Marmo of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Susan Barlow and husband Victor of The Villages, FL; three grandchildren, Karen, Kirsten and Thomas Marmo; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Mr. Eugene Marmo and Dr. Vincent Marmo, both of Old Forge.
Return to his home parish, Albert's Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, November 13th, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial will follow at Old Forge Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, November 13th, from 9:00 AM until Mass.
