Albert J. Martin, Jr.

January 23, 1928 — October 17, 2019

On   October 17, 2019 Albert Martin Jr. of Bowie Maryland, husband of Mary Martin of Crofton Maryland, passed way from congestive heart failure.

Born January 23, 1928 to Mina Armbruster and Albert Martin Sr., immigrants from the town of Baden-Baden, Germany.  The family lived on the Hughes Estate until 1932 when they moved into the District of Columbia.

An accomplished athlete, Mr. Martin excelled at football, baseball, and especially basketball.  During his athletic career he won countless awards and trophies for the Georgetown Boys Club, Woodward Prep School, and Willson Teachers College.

In 1950, Albert was drafted to the United States Army and spent 18 months overseas stationed in Budingen, Germany.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, in 1953 Al began a 36 year career with the Verizon telephone company, known as “Ma Bell” at the time.  Rising from a simple lineman, he retired as a high level manager in 1989.

With his new found free time, Mr. Martin turned his focus to his beloved fraternal organizations.  The VFW, The Moose, and the American Legion.  All located in the Clinton Maryland area.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents, son Patrick Martin, daughter Nina Gormus and sister Josephine Ruggieri.  He is survived by his love and companion of the last 36 years, Tyna Bennett.  His brother, William Martin.  His children Sandra and Charles Buffalano, Alan Martin, Teresa and Michael Mautino, Michelle and David Hudgens, Colin Martin and Cathy Smith, Colleen and Rick Cassidy, Tammy and Jack Thompson, Christine and Robert Gregory, Dwayne Martin, Darla and Tim Sydnor, and Cherie and Matthew Warehime.  As well as twenty three grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rt 3 South), Bowie, MD. A funeral mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr. Crofton, MD, October 24, 2019 at 11am.  Reception to follow at Boswell Hall.
