Alberta Mary Fricker

Alberta Mary Fricker   5/12/1927 - 4/28/2021

Alberta Fricker, age 93, a long-time resident of Bowie, died peacefully in her sleep at home on April 28, 2021, following a recent stroke.

She was born on May 12, 1927, in Malden, MA, and grew up in Williston Park, NY.   After graduating from Bishop McDonnell High School in Brooklyn, NY, in 1944, she worked for the Equitable Bank and attended night classes at Columbia University in New York City.   

She met her husband Vincent on a blind date, and they married in 1951.   They settled in Syosset, NY, and moved to Bowie with their 5 children in 1966.  She worked for the Bowie branch of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, a job she dearly loved.   She began as a page shelving books in 1970 and retired in 1989 as a circulation desk supervisor.   In her early retirement years, she loved to garden, and enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Bowie and Greenbelt libraries and the Rockledge Elementary School library.  She later served as a volunteer driver for FISH of Greater Bowie for many years, taking countless people to medical appointments.  She loved her morning newspaper, books, music (especially Frank Sinatra and Eva Cassidy), watching birds at her bird feeder, Law & Order, and drinking wine.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, and memories of weekly Sunday dinners at Nana’s will be forever cherished by her children and grandchildren. 

She was much loved and will be dearly missed by her five children, Stephen Fricker of Huntington, NY, Janet Skinner of Palm Harbor, FL, Nancy Elliott of Poulsbo, WA, Louise Fricker Reilly of Bowie, MD, and Tim Fricker of Vienna, VA, her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Vincent B. Fricker. 

Visitation will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy (Rte. 3 South). Bowie, MD on Friday, May 7th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 12700 Lanham Severn Rd., Bowie, MD, on Saturday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m.
