Alfred Stanziale, born February 18, 1924, died December 9, 2021 after a brief hospitalization. Born to Peter and Susan (Marcantonio) Stanziale in Essex County, NJ, Al was the fifth of six children: Florence (Edmund) LeaMond, Matthew (Helen Siebert), Marie (Frank) Gawaska, Prosper (Olga Saliklis) and Elizabeth (John) Lauria. Al had dozens of cousins and treasured his family connections.
In his 97 years, Al was a devoted husband to Billie Sue (Anderson) Stanziale, a loving father to Beth (Billy) Hazel and Chris (Maggie Griffin) Stanziale. Al had four grandchildren (Kelly and Laura Hazel, Joseph and Elizabeth Heeger) and four great grandchildren (Trent, Oceana, Elise and Joseph).
Al graduated from Millburn High School and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a signalman third class during World War II. After his tour of duty, he attended and graduated from Seton Hall University and worked many years for several government agencies as a Certified Public Accountant.
On his first work assignment in West Virginia, Al met Billie Sue and the two were married in 1952. They settled in Beckley, WVA, where their children were born. Later the family moved to Bowie, Maryland, where they spent the majority of their lives. After retiring, the widowed Al moved to Venice, Florida with his daughter’s family, to finish the remaining years of his life in the warm sunshine.
Al was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks USA. He and Billie Sue enjoyed many Friday night dinners at the Elks Lodge in the company of a large group of friends and fellow Elks. Al enjoyed traveling with family and friends and reminisced often about these adventures. Seldom seen without his trademark martini in hand, Al’s legacy will be remembered by the many lives he touched.
