With profound sadness we announce the passing of Anand Javier Carlos Rawls our loving and devoted husband, father and friend to all whose lives he touched. Anand, 40, passed suddenly from a heart attack at his home in Crofton, Maryland on May 16, 2020.
Anand was born May 28, 1979 in New Haven, Connecticut. He leaves behind his loving wife, Donna (Barnes) Rawls, one son, Dominic Javier Carlos Rawls, three brothers, Reginald Truesdale of Baltimore, Vincent Rawls (Brenda) of New York, Namid Rawls of Maryland, one sister, Nashira Rawls of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is preceded in death by his mother, Leonette Rawls.
Anand grew up in Crofton, Maryland of Anne Arundel County. He graduated from Arundel High School in 1999 and went on to study at the Baltimore School of Welding. He then joined the apprenticeship program at Local 5 Ironworkers Union DC. After completing his apprenticeship he then became a Jouneyman Welder. Anand worked on many notable buildings in the DC area including Newseum and the National Harbor.
Anand enjoyed sports of any kind, traveling, attending Native American Pow Wows but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. On weekends you would find him at home watching sports and cooking for everyone. As a matter of fact, he was such an amazing chef and would cook for everyone which earned him his lifelong nickname Sauce/Big Sauce. Anand's sense of humor was second to none and always had everyone laughing. His spirited personality and love of life was so contagious it was hard to walk away from him without feeling as if he touched your soul. Anand was a constant teacher/role model for all of the children in his family and everyone else’s in the neighborhood. Anand was always there to lend a hand to a friend if it was needed and he will be missed terribly by everyone.
Due to current Covid -19 restrictions, no arrangements have been able to be made as of yet. Please watch for updates on his wife Donna Barnes-Rawls' Facebook page. We will have a gathering as soon as we are allowed to do so.
