The Dziekan family mourns the loss of our father and the oldest member of our extended family. Andrew Edward Dziekan passed on October 19, 2022 in the arms of his daughter Sandra. Wrapped in the arms of one he loved; he was taken from us. He would have celebrated his 95th birthday in November.
Andrew can be described best as a family man. His life was always focused on and surrounded by family. He was a devoted husband who even after the death of his beloved Jean, referred to “we” as he always held her in his heart. As a father, he pushed his children as he wanted them to be strong and hard working. He also had a tender side that was honest and just. Most of all, he was the corner stone and a link in our family chain.
Andrew, or Andy as he was known, was born in Batavia, New York to John and Jenny Dziekan in 1927. Joining the Air Force as a young man he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas where he met his love, Jean. After serving his country the family moved back to Batavia, New York where their family grew to six children. The family eventually moved to Bowie, Maryland where Andy retired from his position as a computer programmer with the Federal Government. In the 1970’s they purchased a plot of land and built a cottage in northwestern New York where many happy memories were made and where his loss will be felt always. In his later years his happiest times were tending his garden and apple trees in New York surrounded by family.
We children, grandchildren, cousins and loved ones all have at least one funny story to tell of Dad (Andy). From the wild goose story, to who is his honey? Please share these memories on this site so all our hearts can be lifted.
Andrew is proceeded in death by his loving wife Geneva (Jean), son Andrew Dziekan Jr, grandchildren Kevin Ottey and Kyle Ottey in addition to his brothers, John Dziekan, Frank Dziekan, Richard Dziekan, Eugene Dziekan and sisters Rose Dillon, Eleanor Starowitz and Josephine Seward.
He leaves behind sister Helen Robins, daughter in-law Ana Maria Dziekan, children Dennis Dziekan and wife Linda, Gary Dziekan and wife Kathleen, Susanne Ottey, Jeanne Hartmeyer and husband Howard, Sandra Worley and husband Charlie in addition to eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
We mourn the loss and celebrate the life of the man who shaped our lives.
