Andrew Mark, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2022 at the age of 81 in Crofton, Maryland. Andrew was born on September 24, 1940 in Leipzig, Germany of Ukrainian descent, and spoke fluent Ukrainian, German, and English. In September 1951, the Mark family immigrated to the United States, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from the 212th Class of the Central High School of Philadelphia in 1959, Andrew went on to study aeronautical engineering at Drexel University, obtaining his Doctorate degree in 1969.
Through ROTC at the university, Andrew spent two years in the Army and over 30 years working with the Department of Defense, with distinguished work at the Army Ballistics Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. He continued his career as a contractor with the High Performance Computing Modernization Program until his full retirement in 2013.
During his retirement, Andrew enjoyed traveling and kayaking as well as playing the piano and spending time with his five grandchildren.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Jaroslava Mark, née Melynk, and his first wife Nina Mark, née Donetz, with whom he had twin daughters.
Andrew is survived by his wife Susan Mark, née Kautz, his daughters Nina (Matthew) Cardillo, and Andrea (Luigi) Faustini, as well as his grandchildren Maximilian, Victor, and Lucas Cardillo, and Nina and Andrew Faustini.
In remembrance of Andrew Mark, the family asks that charitable donations may be made to the Ukrainian American Freedom Foundation Inc. or the American Cancer Society.
