Andrew (Andy) Moser, 54, of Edgewater, died peacefully at AAMC on October 7, 2020, after suffering a cardiac arrest on September 8th. Born in Millville, New Jersey, Andy grew up in Vineland, New Jersey, and graduated from Vineland High School. He developed a love for sports cars, particularly Datsun Z cars, during this time, buying and rebuilding several, including his beloved fire engine red 1977 280Z, which he continued tinkering with throughout his life.
After high school, Andy earned an Associate of Arts degree at Cumberland County College. After transferring to Glassboro State College, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and completed coursework to be certified as a Secondary Education teacher.
While a student at Glassboro, he worked part time as a counselor in the JTPA Summer Youth Employment program in Cumberland County, a position which foreshadowed his long-term career. During this time, he also worked as a tutor at Cumberland County College, having been hired by his future wife. After graduation, Andy worked full time for the JTPA program.
Moving to Maryland in 1996, Andy spent the majority of his career in the field of Workforce Development, first for the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board (GWIB), and then heading the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC), where he was recognized with a number of awards and recognition at the county, state and national level. While there, he established AAWDC Satellite Centers at both Arundel Mills and at Baltimore Washington International Airport, both of which are now essential centers for employment in Anne Arundel County. He then was appointed Assistant Secretary of Labor by Governor Martin O’Malley, where he served until the Legislative formation of the statewide Maryland Workforce Corporation and was appointed as the inaugural President and CEO.
Andy went on to work as a consultant with several firms managing a number of federal Department of Labor contracts. Most recently, he worked as Corporate Director of Training and Special Projects for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. In every job he held, Andy was always willing to go the extra mile, and he did so with a smile and enthusiasm..
An avid lifetime cycling fan, he was a competitive cyclist as a teen, with his claim to “fame” (as he told it) being that he was beaten in a race by two-time Tour de France champion, Greg Lemond. Later, he was an avid runner until sidelined by an injury, completing two marathons, several half marathons, and a host of other races. He was well-known around the neighborhood for continuing to walk regularly through September 8th.
Andy was extremely proud of his two daughters and never missed a chance to share his joy in their accomplishments with friends and co-workers. He cared deeply for animals, especially the numerous family pets, all of whom were adopted. A lazy Sunday watching movies with a dog by his side was a perfect day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Alfonse Moser, Jr., and his mother Irene Moser.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia, two daughters, Katie and Ellie, and the many friends and colleagues with whom he built relationships over the course of his lifetime. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
