Anna T. Degraff

September 1, 1926 — May 21, 2020

NEW CARROLLTON - Anna Theresa Degraff, aged 93, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 21 after a long illness. During her illness home care aides, Keba and Diane from Home Instead Senior Care and the staff from Hospice of the Chesapeake were invaluable.

Anna was born in Munich, Germany on September 1, 1926 to parents Joseph and Magdalena and grew up there surviving the bombs and horrors of World War II with her five brothers.

Anna met her husband, Raymond A. Degraff, just after the war as she worked as an administrative assistant for the U.S. military. They married in July of 1949 and she and Ray returned to the United States. They lived in Baltimore and then the Washington suburbs, eventually settling in New Carrollton, MD. Ray preceded Anna in 2009. They were married 59 years.

Anna had many interests. She was an avid reader, gardener and participant in the Knights of Columbus auxiliary. She was a devoted wife and mother of two. She enjoyed a close knit relationship with a community of friends. She was an energetic and independent woman.

Anna is survived by her beloved daughters Evie and Susan; her six grandchildren: Amy, Peter, Matthew, Thomas, James and Benjamin; her brother Walter and her nephew Adolph.

All services will be private. Anna will be buried at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery with her beloved husband.
