Aristi Vourlos passed away peacefully on August 24, 2021 after many years battling lewy body dementia. Aristi was born to Stamati and Maria Andrelos on August 25, 1938 in Karystos, Evia, Greece. She attended high school in Kalamaki, Athens, where she lived with her two older sisters Condilia (Lily) and Soteria (Soso). After high school, Aristi worked in retail sales at the Athens Airport as well as at Cafe Brazilian in Athens, prior to meeting her beloved husband Nick. They married in 1963 in Athens, and lived in Thessaloniki before moving to Maryland in 1965.
Aristi and Nick loved traveling almost as much as they loved each other and their family, and they enjoyed many travels and adventures together through the years. They moved their family from Maryland in 1971 to Pennsylvania, then to Athens, Greece (1975), and northern California (1976) before returning to Maryland in 1981. Aristi worked in sales at Macy’s for 10 years, where she made many friends and interacted with the community. Aristi and Nick became Florida residents after retirement in the late 1990s, while maintaining a summer residence in Maryland until 2017, when they relocated permanently to Bonita Springs in southwest Florida.
Aristi was funny, happy, and witty; friends remember her fondly as someone who lit up the room when she entered it. She loved Greek music, cuisine, and Greek dancing, and she loved to entertain and attend social events. She enjoyed volunteering at the annual festivals at her local Greek Orthodox church. When she was diagnosed with her illness in 2013, she sadly stated that her wings were clipped, and despite her suffering, she enjoyed excursions and outings until the weeks preceding her death. She was an exceptionally loving person; her family was her greatest blessing and joy, and she is missed by family and friends.
Aristi was preceded in death by her two older brothers and two sisters; she lost her daughter Niki, whom she loved dearly, to cancer in 2014. She was pre-deceased by her husband Nick of 57 years, in 2020. She is survived by her daughter Ann Marie Vourlos, of Bonita Springs, Florida, nephew Andrew Vourlos of Smithtown, New York, as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families in Greece.
Funeral will take place at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, Maryland on September 7, 2021. Memorial service to be held at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Naples, Florida in October.
