Arthur Leonard Johnson

On February 4th, 2024, Arthur L. Johnson, 53, of Bowie, MD, left our physical world to get court side seats in heaven to watch down on us.  Most likely betting parlays; taking the odds on who will cry first at his Celebration of Life, who will wear the best sneakers in his memory and if it will be a morning or afternoon service.

This is not an ad for Fanduel but an obituary for a great Man, Husband, Father, Son, Uncle, Nephew and Friend, born and raised in Washington, DC, the son of Carolyn Robinson and Arthur L. Johnson, father of Kelly Williams and husband of Melissa Aperocho Johnson.  He leaves behind a very colorful, loud, loving family and will be sorely missed and survived by his siblings: James, Lumumba, Teinnette, Monique, Bryan and Sean; nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and dog Lulu.  All of whom loved him dearly and will never forget his quirky sense of humor, wit, kindness, his love of plants and awe inspiring sneaker collection. 

Arthur was a man of few words but his actions spoke volumes.  He didn’t like being around people very much but everyone knew he was always willing and ready to extend a helping hand.  Whether it be words of encouragement (or in some cases telling you like it is), help with minor house repairs (really minor) or putting some furniture together (if you didn’t mind a few extra screws left at the end), whatever he did, it always came from a place of love.  Diversity was his middle name and he was the person who could relate to different people on so many things from sports to comics, politics to house repairs, he was always able to connect with the people who were blessed enough to know him.   

The family will be receiving people on February 29th, 2024 from 1:00-2:00pm and a memorial service from 2:00-3:00pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Bowie MD 20715.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or for something to be planted in his memory.
