Arthur Stephen Stanley

It is with great sadness that the family of Arthur Stephen Stanley announces his passing on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at the age of 83. Arthur died peacefully at his home in Glenn Dale, Maryland surrounded by his beloved family. Arthur will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Eva and his children, Denise (Donald), Michael (Lisa), and Kimberly. Arthur will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Samantha, Melissa, Stephen, Nicole, Scott, and Delaney. Arthur is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Stanley, his mother, Agnes Stanley, his brother, Robert Stanley, his son-in-law, Christopher Parrotta, and his grandson, Matthew Stanley.

In 1935, Arthur was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated from Holliston High School, where he met the love of his life, Eva. In 1958, Arthur joined the Army and in the following year, he married Eva. A year after their marriage, they welcomed their first child, Denise. Shortly after, Arthur was deployed to Germany, where he served the remaining years of his service. In 1963, they welcomed their second child, Michael. Arthur and his family relocated to Maryland for a job opportunity with the National Security Agency. In 1965, they welcomed their third child, Kimberly. He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt for a friend. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather to many.

Arthur enjoyed many hobbies, one of his favorites was woodworking. He used his talent to make furniture for those he loved. Another pastime he enjoyed was fishing with his friends and grandchildren. For the past 25 years, Arthur has looked forward to his annual fishing trips with Keith, Jerry, Doc, Mike, UB and many others. As a loyal sports fan, his free time was dedicated to watching the Redskins and the Capitals. Arthur will be forever remembered for his devotion to his family, his generous heart, his infamous one-liners, and his unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
