Belmont James Royce passed away on February 4, 2020, and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Royce as well as his loving parents Belmont Tolson Royce and Nancy Belle Royce. He is survived by his sister Dana M. Van Horn (James); brother Terry L. Royce, Sr. (Nancy); niece Megan Harrington (Jason); nephew Terry L. Royce Jr. (Kristin); great-nephew Jalen Harrington; great-nieces Kelsey and Zoey Royce; stepdaughter Tena Jacobson; granddaughter Elena Burdick and stepson James Jacobson. Belmont (also known as Jimmy or Bel) was a resident of Cumberland, Capitol Heights and Crofton, Maryland.
He is an Alumni of Central High School Class of ’65. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 to see the World . He served on the USS WASP (CVS-18) as Boilerman 3rd. He traveled to numerous countries during his tour of duty. The USS WASP played a prominent role in the manned space program, serving as the recovery ship for 2 of 5 Gemini missions during his assignment on the USS WASP. Jimmy worked as a Grocery Clerk at Giant Food for 45 years. He was a member of the Patuxent Masonic Lodge No. 218 for 36 years.
Family and friends will be received at BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a Masonic Service to be held at 12:30 PM Inurnment to follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
