Benjamin G. Straus, 86, passed away on September 27, 2022, after a long illness.
Born on May 22, 1936, to Benjamin J. and Christina (Ritchie) Straus in Saratoga Springs, NY,
Benjamin resided in Bowie, MD, for over 40 years. After spending some time in the Army, he
was active in the Army Reserves until being honorably discharged in 1964. Benjamin spent a
short time teaching social studies at a high school in Long Island before starting his career with
the federal government. He worked for the government for over four decades, traveling all over
the world for his job.
Benjamin enjoyed singing in the choir, which he had been a member of for many years. He also
never missed a chance to travel and spend time visiting with old high school friends and
buddies from his time in the military.
In addition to his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by his brothers, Donald M. Straus and
John E. Nichols, both of Saratoga Springs, NY. He is survived by his nephews, John C. Nichols
(Catherine) of Malta Ridge and Edward Nichols of Saratoga Springs, NY; his two
grand-nephews Jason (Holly) Nichols of Clifton Park, NY, and Zebidiah (Kristen) Nichols of
Waterford, NY; his grand-niece Rebecca (Jeremy) Rubitsky of Ballston Spa, NY; as well as
several cousins from both the Straus and Ritchie families.
