First working as a window and siding salesman for several years before making his final career move in 1990 when he established Maryland Builders, Inc. He enjoyed all aspects of being an entrepreneur and his passion for designing home remodels and creating beautiful room additions were life changing experiences for his customers. His business continued for many years until his recent retirement in 2017. All his employees revered him as being a giving, wise, and intelligent businessman.
In his spare time, Ben enjoyed hosting BBQ’s for friends and family at his home regularly. His bright and funny personality was the life of the party as his many family and friends would partake in the funny laughs that followed his imaginative banter. Ben had many hobbies and was always interested in learning. He was an avid coin collector throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, horse racing, and drawing. As a proud Marylander, he had a ferocious appetite for seafood and especially crabs served with Old Bay and vinegar. He spent countless hours building his in-home library where he carefully documented his vast collection of books and records. Ben enjoyed remodeling and completing projects around his own home and loved traveling. He and Shirley took several trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Costa Rica over the years. He spoke a bit of German and Yiddish which he learned from his mother and Spanish which he learned as an adult while spending time with his family. John 14:1-6
In my Father’s house are many rooms] Jesus said to his disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
