Beryl Crown, 90, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025 at the Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center, in Crofton, MD. Though born on November 13, 1934 in New York City, NY, he spent his entire childhood in Washington DC as the son of the late John and Molly (Tesler) Crown. He is survived by his wife off 66 years, Agnes (Rosser), his two children Pam (Allan) Werle and Scott (Laura) Crown, as well as four granddaughters.
Starting in his teen years, he assisted his father, John, in the family’s locksmith shop until age 20 when he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as the sergeant of a helicopter mechanic team.
In 1956 he left the Marines to attend the University of Maryland where he met his future wife, Agnes right before beginning of the first term. They wed in 1958 and built a strong and happy marriage starting in Bowie and Laurel, Maryland and ending in Palmyra, Virginia. While in Maryland, Beryl spent the next 32 years working for GM Motors at their assembly plant in Dundalk, Maryland in material management ending his career as a shift superintendent.
He was an avid DIYer and marksman. Each family home had multiple built-ins, a shed in the yard as well as a gazebo or deck in the back. With the occasional help of his wife, he built a rustic cabin on the side of a small mountain outside of Cumberland. Thankfully the love working with machines and hands has been passed on to both generations.
His retirement years were enjoyed at their home in Lake Monticello outside of Charlottesville where they marked another 30 years with good friends. During this time Beryl also honed his marksmanship skills while competing locally in bench shooting and at the nearby gun range.
He was generous with his time and skills, spending years as a member of the Fluvana County Rotary club where he served as treasurer. On top of this he enjoyed a good bourbon. The family will be having a private celebration of life to honor such a generous man and will remember him in our next toast.
