Brenda Sue Straaten, 71, of Annapolis, MD passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 with her family by her side. She was born November 4, 1948 in Ammons, KY in her Grandparents farm house. Being part of a military family she spent her childhood living in Arkansas, Nebraska, Kentucky and London, England before settling in Washington, DC. She remained in the Washington Metropolitan area and called Annapolis her home for over the last thirty years. She worked several places including Nordstrom, Lallie, The Maryland State Comptroller’s Office and had a long career with STRAACO, LLC. Brenda was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She brought joy to all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morris B. and Mary Lou Parks, her brother, Frank Parks and nephew, Andrew Parks.
She is survived by her loving husband, Peter Straaten, son David Myers, daughter Allison Hourcle (Larry Hourcle), step-children Chris Straaten (Lee Jeffrey), Scott Straaten (Joi Straaten), and Robin Straaten. Grandchildren include Jake Hourcle, Joshua Hourcle, Ryan Hourcle, Ruby Straaten, Isabella Straaten, and Lilah Straaten whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Maggie Parks, her nephew Michael Parks of Upper Marlboro, MD; Uncle Jimmy Parks, Aunt Violet Parks, of Elizabethtown, KY; Uncle Homer Parks of Fairfield, California and numerous cousins.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
