Carey Ford Lively, Jr.  (C.F.), a retired NASA engineer and homebuilder of Bowie, Maryland, died at his home on Tuesday October 22, 2019.  He was 83. 

Mr. Lively was born November 11, 1935 in Brady, Texas.  He grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1954.  He received a bachelor’s of engineering from the University of Texas in 1960 and a master’s of engineering from the University of Colorado in 1963. 
Mr. Lively began his career at Martin Marietta in Colorado before joining NASA in 1964. His 33 years of service at NASA began in the early days of manned spaceflight where he developed avionics for Gemini, Apollo and Skylab programs. He worked on both the Space Shuttle program and International Space Station.  During the latter part of his career, he served as a Mission Systems Engineer for Goddard’s Earth Science missions where he worked on the GRACE, SORCE, and Glory satellite projects.

Mr. Lively also had a passion for home building and real estate. He owned Lively Homes and Lively Builders through which he built many homes in Pasadena and Clear Lake, Texas.  He was an avid fisherman and loved to garden. Throughout his life, he enjoyed softball, snow skiing, camping and golf.  

Mr. Lively was preceded in death by his mother and father, Evelyn and Carey Lively; and his brother, John Robert (Bob) Lively. 

He is survived by his wife Doris Greene Lively; children, Carey William Lively and Catherine Lively; former spouse, Beverly Lively; stepchildren, Richard Greene and his wife Elaine, Jeannette Gibson and her husband Randy; grandchildren, Jacob Greene, Alicia Greene, Candice Cheshire, Jessica Matchavariani, Hannah Davis, and Zach Gibson; and two great-grandchildren.
