Carl Gratton Mann

July 12, 1927 — January 24, 2019

Mr. Carl Gratton Mann passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019 to be with our Lord.  Carl was born in Kannapolis, NC on July 12, 1927 to the late Ralph Sr. and Mamie Mann.  Carl was 91 years old.  Carl was proceeded in death by his brothers, Ralph Jr. and Jim Mann, and his sister, Virginia Hartsell.  He was also proceeded in death by his son, Marc Gratton Mann, who passed on November 27, 2018. 

Carl attended Kannapolis High School where he played football and was known by classmates as ‘Dynamite Mann’.  Following high school graduation, at the age of 17, Carl proudly enlisted in the United States Navy.  Carl was honored to be a World War II Veteran.  

Once Carl’s military commitment ended, he attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC.  Following college, Carl began his career with the National Geodetic Survey, worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence, and later retired from the Department of the Navy, in Washington DC. 

Carl also studied at Washington Bible College.  He taught Sunday School most of his adult life, was a devoted Christian, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in High Point NC.     

Carl loved family vacations in Myrtle Beach, SC.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and photographing family milestones, such as Christmas, and other meaningful holiday celebrations.  Carl took pride in his family and their many accomplishments. 

Carl leaves cherished memories with his wife of nearly 67 years, Patricia Lineback Mann, daughter, Carla Mann Koskinas, husband (Tony), son, Lee Gayln Mann, wife (Lee), and daughter-in-law, Denise Daly Mann.

8-Grandchildren: Courtney Corcoran, husband (Sean), Jeffrey Gratton Mann, wife (Katie), Casey Greene, husband (Dr. Kevin), Jackie Theberge, husband (Casey), Dr. Dean Koskinas, Spencer Mann, wife (Casey), Brittany Reitz, husband (Steven), and Jodi Mann.

11-Great Grandchildren Colin Theberge, Thomas Gratton Greene, Allison Mann, Carly Corcoran, Cayla Theberge, Avery Mann, Nolan Gratton Mann, Yates Greene, Daisy Reitz, Zoe Corcoran, and Peter Mann.

Service will be held at 11:00 am on February 2, 2019, at Christian Community Presbyterian Church, 3120 Belair Drive, Bowie, MD 20715.
