Carole Ann Sturgill, 89, died Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, Maryland. Mrs. Sturgill is survived by her son Douglas Sturgill of Bowie; son Robert Sturgill and his wife Linda of Bowie; her granddaughter Alicia Sturgill and Alicia’s fiancée Matt Smith of Ashburn, Virginia; two great-grandsons, August and Axel Gaiser of Ashburn, Virginia and her great-granddaughter Mikaela Smith of Ashburn, Virginia.
Mrs. Sturgill graduated from Springfield South High School in Ohio in 1951 and was later employed by the United States Air Force as an administrative assistant in a civilian capacity. It was after her transfer to Norton Air Force Base in Southern California that she met and married her husband of 65 years, Carmi Quentin Sturgill. Mrs. Sturgill later graduated from Bowie State University (with honors) and taught high school English. For a number of years Mrs. Sturgill worked as a department manager for a local retail store. After retiring she and her husband traveled throughout the United States. Mrs. Sturgill was fond of jigsaw puzzles, TV comedies, classic movie dramas and crafting. Above all she was devoted to her great-grandsons and great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2503 Belair Drive, Bowie, Maryland. Visitation at the church will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon. A private interment will take place at the Crownsville Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Hospice of the Chesapeake.
