Carolyn Mae (Williams) Richardson,78,passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023 at Casey House Hospice in Rockville, MD after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on June 12, 1945 in Washington, DC at Freedmans Hospital to James E. Williams and Alice M. (Chapman) Williams. She attended DC Public Schools where she graduated from Eastern High School in 1963 and then pursued a course of study in Sociology at Howard University in Washington, DC. She married Robert D. Richardson on April 8, 1965 and began her career with the District Government as a Superior Court Interviewer. Carolyn and Robert welcomed their only daughter, Kimberly Tyra (Richardson) Crawford on April 14, 1970 and settled in the DC metropolitan area. Carolyn later joined the Federal Government, working for NASA as a Benefits Specialist until She retired in 1998. Carolyn was a devout Catholic attending St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Washington DC throughout her childhood and later becoming a Parishioner at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Largo, MD. Carolyn understood and practiced her faith all of her life. While at St. Joseph’s Carolyn joined the Sadality, a lay ministry intended to bring Marian devotion, community service & a social experience to practicing Catholics. She also became a Eucharistic Minister while at St. Joseph's. She loved her faith and her undeniable service to the Lord. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, often chatting endlessly with all and everyone she encountered. Carolyn spent her life in service, demonstrating a humble grace, and devotion to all. She was dedicated to many charities and volunteered wherever there was a need. She loved to read, travel, sing (although she would herself admit to being a bit off key), and was a connoisseur of all things snack related (especially snickers bars). Whenever you saw Carolyn her smile was never far behind.
She is survived by her Daughter, Kimberly Tyra Crawford, Her sister Margaret Ann Tillery, Her Son-in-law Terrence A. Crawford, Her grandchildren, Terrence A. Crawford, Jr., Nina M. Crawford, and Niya M. Crawford, and several nephews. She loved her family dearly and made an indelible mark on their lives. Carolyn will be eternally missed by all who knew and loved her.
