Catherine Lyles Duvall, born on August 5, 1942, formally of Upper Marlboro MD, died peacefully at home, in Gambrills, MD on July 23, 2023, surrounded by loving family. She was under the care of hospice of the Chesapeake of Anne Arundel County MD. Catherine is predeceased by her children’s father, David Downing Duvall, Sr. , as well as her son David Downing Duvall, Jr. She is survived by her twin sister, Charlotte West Pope, her younger sister Caroline Elizabeth Singh, as well as her two daughters, Priscilla West Duvall and Elizabeth Lyles Duvall. She is also survived by multiple cousins, two nephews and a niece.
Catherine had a deep love of horses and enjoyed a fulfilling career as an exercise rider, working with thoroughbreds at various race tracks throughout the area. She obtained her riding instructor certification at the Potomac Horse Center in 1969, and gave riding lessons to many members of the Marlboro community over the years. Catherine was also a long time member of the Marlborough Hunt Club, and found the invigorating sport fox chasing to be one of her favorite pastimes. Catherine was an avid reader, and also had a gift for writing poetry. Many times she wrote about her beloved family home, Brookewood, in Croom, MD, the home in which she spent most of her life, and raised her children.
Catherine had a deep love appreciation for the countryside, for animals, and was also a fantastic natural cook. She was a strong, hard working , independent woman, who loved her family dearly, and enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations.
Visitation will be held the Beall Funeral Home, in Bowie MD on Thursday July 27, from 6-8. The funeral will be at St Thomas Church, in Croom on Friday July 28, at 11am.
