Catherine Madu, 73, died March 13th 2022 with her family by her side in Baltimore MD.
Funeral services will be held at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie MD followed by Burial Services at Fort Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Brentwood MD and Repass at Samuel Riggs Alumni Center in College Park, MD.
Catherine was born August 23rd 1948 in Imo State, Nigeria to Vincent and Bridget Opara. Catherine completed standard 6 grade school. She grew up in Nigeria, met her future husband, Leo Madu, just prior to the Nigerian civil war. She completed middle school in Nigeria and during the war focused on a trade. After the war, she and Leo married and migrated to the United States and started their family. They had three children, Paul Madu, Adaku Nwachukwu, and ChiChi Madu. Shortly after arriving in the U.S., Catherine finished high school and then Catherine got her bachelor’s degree in Finance at the University of the District of Columbia in 1986, all while working full time. After graduation, she worked at Citizen’s Bank (now CapitalOne) as a head teller. Later, Leo started his own cleaning business with Catherine. Once the company was up and running, Catherine decided to study to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. She eventually was hired at Unity Healthcare as an LPN where she worked until her death.
Catherine’s hobbies included cooking, gardening, and sewing. She was also an avid member of her local church Zion Charismatic Recover Ministries in Crofton MD. She was an Evangelist that participated in many church events.
She is now survived by her three children, and ten grandchildren.
