Cecilia Ann Hatef

On Friday, January 5, 2024, Cecilia Ann Hatef (Cissy), of Bowie Maryland, passed away peacefully at home with family and her loyal dog, Molly, by her side.  Affectionately known as “Mam-maw” to all, Cissy was born on April 8, 1934 in Washington DC and moved shortly thereafter to Amagansett, New York where she grew up with her sisters and brother.  She had many adventures with her family and friends, with some of her most cherished times spent with her cousin, Sammy.  Cissy and Sammy spent many hours on her father’s scallop boat shucking scallops.  Their time together provided Cissy with an abundance of treasured lifelong memories.  Mam-maw’s time on Long Island was her fondest and when she moved back to the DC area at the age of 18, her heart remained in Amagansett.  Mam-maw worked for a few years in the nursery at Providence Hospital before starting her own daycare, Pixie’s Daycare, where she provided many years of care to children, who essentially became an extended family of their own.  Mam-maw was an avid country music lover, Fox News watcher, and Giant Food shopper.  She spent many years helping with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a beloved part of each of their lives. 

Cissy is survived by many beloved family, friends, and neighbors.  She was the sister to Pat, Judie, and Eddie (predeceased); the mother to Anne, Margie, Jeff, Susie, and Joe; and aunt to David.  Cissy was the grandmother of Jodie, Eddie, Jennifer, Sarah, Jeffrey Jr., Ben, Sarah, Rebecca (predeceased), Jacob, Josh, Ashley, Claudia, and Nicholas.  And, the great-grandmother of Kristen, Raven, Daniel, Emma, Jeffrey, and Caleb. 

Her feisty spirit, toughness, and tenacity will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
