Charles L. Dunfee

February 19, 1933 — March 5, 2025

Upper Marlboro

Charles Logan Dunfee, affectionately known as “Chuck” and “Pap”, passed away on March 5, 2025. He was surrounded by family and close friends and is now with his Savior, Jesus Christ and his precious wife, Georgia, who preceded him in death by only 16 days.

Chuck was born on February 19, 1933, in Powhatan Point, Ohio, he was the cherished son of Floyd and Mary Dunfee (née Swegard). Chuck loved to tell stories of his time on the farm in the foothills of Appalachia.

On July 12, 1953, Chuck married the love of his life, Georgia Lee Dunfee (née Drennan), in Powhatan Point, Ohio. Their love story began in 1949 at a church picnic, where he toasted her a perfect marshmallow. He later proposed and they were married following his return from Korea. Together, Chuck and Georgia created a life and a home filled with love, family, and friends. Their love story was epic and they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage together. Just as they were inseparable in life, Chuck followed Georgia into eternal rest shortly after her passing.

Chuck graduated from Powhatan Point High School and joined the United States Air Force at 17, where he served honorably for four years, including deployment to Korea. After his time in the military, he pursued further education. He attended George Washington University for a year before transferring to the University of Maryland, where he diligently took one class at a time for 17 years, ultimately earning a degree in Business Administration.

In 1964, Chuck began an illustrious career at NASA, where he rose to the rank of Senior Executive. His dedication and innovation were recognized through a Presidential Rank Award for the development of cost-plus award fee contracting, a system that is now utilized government-wide. Chuck retired from NASA in 1994 and later found fulfillment in real estate, where he continued to share his expertise and passion for helping others for many years, ultimately building both a family business and legacy.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chuck was deeply involved in his local church and his community. When he was 20 years old, Chuck made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, after hearing the Gospel presented by evangelist Katherine Kuhlman at a local revival. His faith was lived out through his kindness to others, his love for his family and his generosity to those in need.

Whether it was a week at deer camp or a long weekend at the Beach House, Chuck cherished the times he spent with his family and friends. From his mechanical knowledge to handyman skills, he earned the reputation as the guy who could fix anything. He was also known for his saying, “If I can’t fix it, it ain’t broke!”

Together, Chuck and Georgia traveled the world, visiting the Caribbean Islands, Japan, Israel, Ireland, England, France, Italy, Guatemala, Australia, New Zealand, China, Egypt, Jamaica, and Greece. Stateside, they logged many miles in their beloved “Jambee Motorcoach,” (Aka “Harvey”). They hosted many family vacations with extended family and friends and cherished the memories they made together.

Chuck is survived by his son, Tim, along with his wife, Kristin. He is also survived by his brother, Floyd, along with his wife, Carolyn; his sister-in-law, Eloise Drennan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews. His greatest joys were his cherished grandchildren: Logan; Sierra, her husband, Matthew, and their coming child; Cheyenne, her husband, Matthew, and their son, Jeremy; Ben, his wife, Bethany, and their daughters, Aemlia, Felicity, and Lucy; and Alexa, her husband, Patrick, and their son, Charles. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and special friends who were like family, including Mark Sentner, Ty Massie, Steve and Dorothy Henry, Chris Jorgensen, Tom Kenney, and Jerry and Nancy Massie.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a favorite charity. The family also would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice of the Chesapeake for their unwavering support during Chuck’s final years.

As we remember Chuck, our Dad, our “Pap”, and our “Unk”, we celebrate a life well-lived and we hold on to the knowledge that we will see him again in the presence of our Savior.

Chuck and Georgia will have a combined Celebration of Life service on March 16, 2025, at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM. The service will begin at 3pm.

Chuck and Georgia Dunfee will be laid to rest in a private burial service at Cheltenham Military Cemetery at a later date.
