Charles Edward Gross of Crofton, Maryland was born on July 31, 1930. He peacefully departed this life the morning of January 30, 2022, at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Hospital, Glen Burnie, Maryland. His parents preceded him in death, Daisy Melinda Thomas and James Wilfred Gross, sisters and brothers Carroll Gross, Ella Mae Thomas, James Sayles, Margaret Clark and Richard Thomas.

Charles received his education in the public school system of Prince George’s County, Maryland.  He enlisted in the United States Army October 1951 and served until September 1953; after receiving an injury he was release with an honorable discharge. For several years, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the following companies,  ACE Wrecking, Washington, D.C., and retiring from General Shale Brick Company Beltsville, MD. Not wanting to be idle he worked for Fox Chevrolet as a courtesy rider. Charles joined Queen’s Chapel United Methodist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Leon C. Kess, Jr. He enjoyed the worship service and continued to attend until his health no longer permitted him to do so.

Charles met and married Margaret Cameron-Gross August 17, 1983. They enjoyed 38 loving years together.

Charles was fondly known by “My Charles” by his wife, “Nip” by the family. He was known as an avid fisherman; no one could catch more fish or bigger fish than he could. He loved spending time with family and showing up three hours before a cookout. Charles enjoyed traveling to Cambridge, MD with his son to visit his sister.  Never a person to be late for family cookouts, an on-time person all the time.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, wife Margaret Cameron-Gross, children of a previous marriage, Vernon Gross (Yvonne) of Hope Mills, NC, Ruby Gross-Naylor (Samuel) of Fort Washington, MD, and Crystal Gross-Franklin of Temple Hills, MD. Grandchild: Rico Brown (Nicole) of District Heights, MD, great-grandbabies Nekayla, Neriyah, Nyree, Nevaeh and Nylah. Sisters: Rev. Bertha Northam (Howard) of Cambridge, MD, and Ida Youmans of Baltimore, MD; Sister-in-laws Evelyn Gross (preceded in death James Rodney) of Glenn Dale, MD, Ruby Manning of Henderson, TX, and Daisy Garrett, Los Angeles, CA; God-child DeVon Burley (Tarsha) of Waldorf, MD. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,

the righteous judge, shall give me at the day; and not to me only, but unto all them

also that love his appearing.     II Timothy 4:7-8

Daddy,

You were only in our lives for a short time. We treasure those precious moments we had with you, talking and laughing. We will truly miss you. Rest in peace.

Love Vernon, Ruby and Crystal
