Charlotte Ermalinda Martinez

February 24, 1944 — June 19, 2020

Charlotte Ermalinda Martinez (76) of Upper Marlboro, passed away on June 19, 2020, with her loving family by her side.

She was born to the late John J. Martinez and Esther Vialpando Martinez on February 24, 1944, in Ogden, Utah. Charlotte graduated from Davis High School in 1962.

Charlotte is survived by her son, Abel Gallegos (Kathy); daughter, Yvette Robichaud (Christopher); grandchildren, Alexandra, Veronica, Brady, Timothy (Maureen); great granddaughter, Collette; and four siblings.

She had a long career working for the United States Federal Government, General Services Administration. She was extremely proud of her work as a Contracting Specialist securing emergency purchases for the Agency for International Development (AID).

Following her extensive 31-year career with the government, she retired in 2009 as a Contracting Officer and began quilting. Typical to her nature, she turned what was originally a simple hobby into her own quilting business, Threads in Time. Charlotte was a fabulous long arm quilter and devoted her time to creating beautiful quilts alongside her quilting buddies and flying up the NJ turnpike on weekends to hang with the grands. During sleepovers at Nan’s, her family always laughed that their quilting extraordinaire Nan seemed to never have an extra blankie.

Even after she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2015, she remained active and dedicated to her family and friends. One of her mottos was “Just keep swimming” which she often used to inspire fellow cancer fighters at Walter Reed.

Charlotte was an absolute miracle fighter to the end and taught those she loved to do the same. She will be forever remembered for her infectious laugh, jolly nature, and comforting touch.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD 20715 on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM for visitation and viewing. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 26, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 14908 Main Street Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.
