Cheryl Rogers, 69, was born on September 27, 1951, in Washington DC. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Crofton, MD, late Sunday evening, September 5, 2021. Cheryl was diagnosed with ALS in 2019 and bravely fought the disease until her passing.
Cheryl is survived by Bill Rogers, her beloved husband of 47 years, her three children: Justin Rogers (Kerri), Kristin Rogers, and Kristopher Rogers, her five grandchildren: JT, Chase, Kadence, Kinley, and Kassidy, her mother-in-law Isabel Rogers, and her six siblings: Rolly Luciani (Renate), Frank Luciani, Vince Luciani (Barbara), Sandra Lucian (Larry Ruggiero), Sue Rowden (Lee), and Mark Luciani (Charina).
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents John “Pop-Pop” Lucian and Helen “Mammaw” Lucian.
Cheryl had a long career with the Federal Government (USDA, SEC and Treasury), but her passion in life was her family. She retired from Government service upon the birth of her first grandchild (certainly not a coincidence) and adored spending time with all her grandchildren weekly. She also dearly loved all her nieces and nephews; it was as if she had eleven kids in addition to her three. Cheryl enjoyed the family’s annual beach vacation; she was truly in her element during these times. Another favorite past time was vacationing with her husband Bill, cruising annually to exotic locations, and taking several five-week road trips across the country to visit her daughter Kristin, family, and friends. Cheryl and Kristin shared a special bond, Cheryl always supporting Kristin during her journey through the performing arts. The people who knew Cheryl best would tell you she possessed a rare quality of compassion – profoundly empathetic, a mother to all. Cheryl would want the reader of this obituary to remember the good times, fret not, and live life to its fullest, even during these difficult times.
The family will have a celebration of Cheryl’s life later in September. Additionally, the family requests that if you wish to send donations, please do so at https://iamals.org/give/ (for ALS research), https://teamgleason.org/donate/ (quality life improvements for ALS patients), or https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html (childhood cancer).
