Corina "Faye" Watson

January 18, 1940 — February 21, 2019

Corina “Faye” Monn Watson, 79, passed from this mortal life into the eternities on February 21, 2019, surrounded by her beloved husband of 58 years, Gerald “Jerry” R. Watson, and many of her children, following a battle with cancer.  Faye was born on January 18, 1940 to Charlotte Lorraine Lowman Monn and Charles Oscar Monn in Fairview, Pennsylvania.  She was the fifth of ten children and grew up in Fairview, Pennsylvania.  She attended Quincy High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader, graduating in 1957.  While in high school she started dating Jerry Watson.  She left to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah but soon returned to Pennsylvania to be with Jerry.  They married on July 5, 1960.

They lived in York, Pennsylvania while Jerry attended Penn State, and had their first two of eleven children in York.  They moved to Severn, Maryland in 1962 when Jerry started working for the Federal Government and finished school at Johns Hopkins University.  During this time they had two more children before moving to Bowie, Maryland in 1966.  In their loving home in Bowie they raised their eleven children, and Faye’s days were busy helping her children with the paper routes for the Washington Post, taking them to early morning religion classes, sports practices, youth groups, boy scouts and other activities.  She was known as the “mother of the neighborhood”, caring for all the  children around her.  She was always there to support and guide her children through various challenges, both when they were young and throughout adulthood.  She was especially adept at helping her children navigate their own parenting concerns and questions.  Faye was a grandmother to twenty-six children, great-grandmother to three children, and was just as involved in their lives, attending any function she could and supporting and praying for their success and safety. We take great peace in knowing that she is forever sealed to her family, and that her love and guidance will continue throughout eternity.

Serving others was always a priority to Faye. You could always find her making an extra dinner or dessert to take to someone who was ill, rushing out the door quickly to help someone in need, or watching another child when a friend needed child care at the last minute.  She did all of this privately, never seeking reward or accolades from others.  Her strong faith and desire to follow Jesus Christ was evident in every area of her life.  She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, serving as the Compassionate Service Leader for many years, a calling where she was able to see and meet the needs of so many around her.  Faye also served weekly with her beloved husband for the last decade in the LDS Washington DC Temple.

She will be forever remembered for muttering “Oh, sugar!” when she was frustrated, her sense of humor and love of gentle teasing, and her love of pink flowers, candy, pretty dishes, a great bargain, her vegetable garden, laying out at the beach, babies, and homemade sticky buns.  She is predeceased by her son, Craig, parents Lorraine and Charles, and siblings Charlotte, Lois and Rickey.  She is survived by her devoted husband Gerald, her loving children Brenda, Keith, Christine, Matthew, Jill, Jennifer, Jerri, Spencer, Jodi and David, twenty-six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, as well as her six siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 12:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 16621 Sylvan Drive, Bowie, Maryland, with visitation at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be held at Quincy Cemetery in Quincy, Pennsylvania the following day, March 2, 2019 at 12:00 PM.
