Dale Kenneth Shomper

December 15, 1948 — June 6, 2021

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 30th at 10:30am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.

Dale Shomper passed away June 6, 2021 after a long battle with esophageal cancer. He was born December 15, 1948 in Washington DC to Lorraine and Dean Shomper.  He was the second of their four children. As a young family, the Shompers lived on Clark Place in Northwest Washington DC and then moved to their home in Bethesda, Maryland in 1955. Dale attended elementary school at Our Lady of Victory School in Washington, DC.  His high school years began at Mackin High in DC and after Mackin closed, he transferred to Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda MD. He excelled in wrestling all four years in high school.  He graduated from St. Joseph's College in Indiana in 1970 (Marketing) where he continued wrestling all four years, including in the heavyweight division.  Later, he followed in his father’s footsteps by beginning his own business as a brick mason where he was known for his precision and quality work. He had many requests for restoration and customization in historical homes in the Washington metropolitan area. In retirement, Dale’s passion was the collection of historical, primarily civil war artifacts.

Dale is survived by his beloved son Dean Shomper of Manassas, Virginia and his brother Michael (Georgiana) of Champions Gate, Florida and his sister Patricia Green (Leo) of Bowie, Maryland. Nieces and nephews include Corie Crawford (Keith), Michael Shomper (Shashi), Jessica Martin (Matthew), Ellen Blumhardt (Andrew), Lucas Green (Jessica) and Emma Green. He is preceded in death by his oldest brother Thomas Shomper and parents.

His family sincerely appreciates the support from his devoted friends for comforting him in his last days, including his “Shop” gang and the “OLV” crowd whose bond is still a strong presence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake found online at www.hospicechesapeake.org.
