Daniel Jeffrey Hicks, Sr. passed away at the age of 79, on July 16th 2023, one month before his 80th Birthday. Daniel was born August 23rd, 1943 in Streator, Illinois to James D and Mary E. Hicks (McFarland). He grew up in Pontiac, Illinois. 1961 graduate of Pontiac Township High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in ‘63. The USAF sent him overseas during the Vietnam War. He left the USAF in 1968 and moved to Maryland with his family, to work for the DoD, National Security Agency as an intelligence analyst. 1973-1977 Dan went to work at GCQH England for DoD and took his family there to live. He retired from the Federal Government in 2001. He enjoyed watching sports, with his cat Bella on his lap.
He was a wonderful father, active with his son in the Boy Scouts, took his children to baseball games, and was involved with them in other activities. The family went on a long camping trip through Europe in the 70’s, stayed with his brother and family in Germany. They also had family vacations to both Wales and Ireland. After returning to Maryland the family enjoyed vacation camping trips.
After his second marriage, to Madeline, they enjoyed an active social life with friends. They hosted many Christmas Eve gatherings for family and friends. In earlier years he loved cooking on the grill.
Preceded in death by his parents, Sharilyn Babington (Sister), James Hicks (Brother), Madeline (Loving wife), Brandon Kalwa (Grandson).
Survived by his children: Mary Mazetis (Christopher), Daniel Hicks Jr., Grandchildren: Emma Stull, Hannah Black (Casey), Daniel Hicks III, Ali Kalwa, Christina Kalwa, Dalton Kalwa, Lindsay Sullivan (Shawn), and Casey Stone (Tyler), Great Grandchildren: Paisley Black, Sophia Busch, and Jaxson Busch, Stepchildren: Christopher Kalwa (Erica) Jeffrey Kalwa, Theresa Busch (Joseph) and his cat Bella.
