Daniel J. Houck, lifelong resident of Bowie, MD, passed away on November 30 at his home following a brief illness, at the age of 57. Known as “Digger” to his friends, he attended Bowie High school where he lettered in football, graduating in the class of 1981. He was employed for 25 years with the family business, Gringada Mexican Restaurant in Bowie and Beltsville, MD, where he served as manager and cook.
Danny participated in the Bowie boys and girls club program for many years and was an avid sportsman who continued to participate as player/coach in city-wide men’s unlimited football and softball leagues. He was a dedicated fan of the Baltimore Orioles and of the Washington Redskins.
Beloved son of Henry and Patricia Houck, of Annapolis, he also leaves behind his brothers and sisters: Leigh (Cara) Houck, Kenny (Lisa) Houck, Michael Houck, Barbara Houck, Kristy Tilert, Paul (Allison Kiene) Houck, and Davey (Linda) Houck, and many nieces and nephews. Danny continued employment as a talented man of all trades, repairing homes and automobiles, and other handyman jobs. He was known for his huge heart, quick wit, and his legendary annual birthday bonfires. He was one of a kind and well loved.
Visitation will be held at Beall Funeral Home on Rt 301 in Bowie on Saturday, December 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Indoor visitors will be limited to 10 at a time.
A celebration of Danny’s life is planned for summer of 2021 or whenever deemed safe for large gatherings
