David Clyde Heiss, age 92, peacefully went home to be with His Savior on September 18, 2024. Born on May 11,1932, in Washington D.C., his life and heart were dedicated to his wife Ellie, his 5 daughters and most of all, His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
David served his country with honor during the Korean War as an Army corporal, a cook, and in the Reserves and was a respected member of the Local Steamfitters Union 602 for over 50 years, being predominantly employed by Giant Food. His work ethic and honesty were apparent to all and although he began as an apprentice, he was a trusted foreman when he retired.
Although his devotion to his country and his career were admirable, David trusted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior after hearing the gospel in Korea as a young serviceman, and his life was forever changed. He married his precious wife, Ellie, and God blessed them with 5 daughters. They were his treasures and focus of care. He graduated from Practical Bible Training School in Binghamton, NY, where he trained to preach and teach the Word of God. He became an active member of Riverdale Baptist Church and passionately served as a deacon, a faithful visitation team member, a children’s Bible teacher and taught the New Believers’ Bible Class for many years. He was also a faithful member of Gideons International. His fervent belief in the gospel that changed his life was constantly influencing others toward salvation with his extended family, his fellow steamfitters, his Bible study and his neighbors, and the Lord used him to bring hundreds of grateful people to eternal life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kyle Eugene Heiss and Anna Catherine Erb Heiss and his 8 brothers and sisters.
David is survived by the love of his life of 68 years, Eleanor Catherine Thompson Heiss, his daughters, Linda Towles (Owen), Sandra Mastrorocco (Ken), Janet Conover (John), Peggy Walker (Scott) and Amy Jones (John), 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services are on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Riverdale Baptist Church 1177 Largo Rd. Upper Marlboro, MD 20774: 10am viewing, 11am service, 12pm graveside next door at Riverdale Memorial Gardens.
