David Stern Kimmel

David (Dave) Stern Kimmel, aged 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 14th, at his home with family by side. He was born on June 2, 1936, in Gray, Pennsylvania, to Robert & Margaret Kimmel. He married Bettie Jayne (Zerfoss) Kimmel on 8/14/1961, in Somerset, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Jayne (BJ); his son Robert (spouse Shannon), and his daughter Stacy (spouse Cameron), and five grandchildren (Peyton, Rachel, Zachary, Samantha, and Katherine).

Dave earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the California University of Pennsylvania, and his Master's Degree from the University of Maryland.  He retired from the Maryland State Department of Education, working as a Program Support Services Branch Chief for Vocational Education.  Dave was a recipient of many state and national awards for his efforts within vocational education.

Prior to attending the California University of Pennsylvania, Dave served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957.

His family, sports, and the outdoors were his three biggest passions. Dave was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a tremendous fan of the University of Maryland and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have offered their support during this difficult time. Your thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness are deeply appreciated.

The interment will be in Stoystown, Pennsylvania and the funeral service is still to be planned and will occur at a later date.
