David S. Pilkerton

David Pilkerton passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, under the care of Hospice of the Chesapeake at the age of 80. During the last 6 months of his life, he put up a valiant fight with bladder cancer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Shirley, who passed away in November of 2016.  He is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Decinti (and her late husband Gino) and Sandra Holderbaum and her husband Jim.  He is the loving grandfather (Pop Pop) of Crystal Borrero and her husband Alberto, James Holderbaum and his wife Amanda, Lisa Decinti, her fiancé Nicholas Maringo, Callan Holderbaum and his wife Adrienne, and Grace McManus and her husband Matthew.   He is the adored great-grandfather of Juliana, Arya, Giovanni, Caelin, Lia Kate, Ira, Layton, Makena and Landon.

David was born on February 26, 1938 in Mechanicsville, Maryland and grew up with 5 brothers and 6 sisters.  After graduating high school, David joined the National Guard and was honorably discharged after serving for 6 years.  His career was as a draftsman working for large company projects, including NASA’s shuttle program. Later on, he enjoyed owning and racing horses, as well as owning real estate.  He loved to play softball, horseshoes and was an avid duckpin bowler.  His hobbies included gardening and handiwork, and, was always looking for a bargain, but very generous when it came to family.   Those of us who knew him well could hear him say, “I have one of those at home” no matter what you might need.  He enjoyed a good joke and was quick with a one liner.  He will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy.(Rt 3 South), Bowie, MD where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:30am. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
